Davis is one of very few fighters to have two victories on his record by way of anaconda choke, one of those being over the great Alexander Gustafsson. In a division of wrestlers, McGeary is happy throwing up reverse triangles and trying to tear off shoulders with Americanas from his back.ĭavis has had just as much success from the front headlock, a position which is readily available on many occasions as an opponent attempts to get to his knees. How many fighters can you name in MMA who genuinely excel at attacking from their back in 2016? Now how many aren't gimmicks on the Japanese circuit? And finally, how many of them fight at middleweight or above? The silence if deafening, and that is where Liam McGeary exists. The final reason McGeary is so fascinating is that he is a six-foot-six light heavyweight, who regularly catches opponents in submissions from his back. But the reverse triangle that he won that fight with certainly drew attention to McGeary, which had to be the point of the fight. Since then he had a gimme against Tito Ortiz, who in 2016 has not one victory to write home about. Secondly, McGeary is a fighter whose sole big win came over Emanuel Newton in taking the title. That was quite a feat until His Fistic Majesty, Michael Bisping, walked off a film set to send the American playboy Luke Rockhold to the mat for Blighty. Firstly, he is a British world champion in mixed martial arts.

Put again, super difficult once he full sat down in that position. Now Liam McGeary is intriguing for a couple of reasons. I think his best shot would have been to double brace the leg and push it up, hoping for force a summersault kind of roll over Poclit's right shoulder. But again, the way he landed, it would be an insanely hard task as there's no way to get his hips and body underneath Poclits to create a proper lift while his head is essentially snapped down. I think it would be possible to get a butterfly hook and create some kind of sumi motion going if his legs landed optimally when he fell on his butt. So the only option is to split is legs and go forwards belly down (only possible if super flexible). Towards the body sides is too difficult because Poclit's body is blocking. Towards the choking arm is too hard because all their body weight is on the other side. He would simply just need them to fall over or flatten, but because of the Kesa, and Schrio's body landed, he can't topple them laterally in either direction. Because Poclit keeps the grip, the way Schrio fell forces Poclit's body to drop directly onto the shoulder to close that side of the choke. The forearm/bicep is choking the side that we see, and his shoulder is choking the other side. With him holding onto the leg, it functions the same as an arm triangle. But because Schrio opted to fall on his butt, the momentum actually carries Poclit up and over into an inverted Kesa. If he had just rolled onto his back, they would have been stuck in normal Kesa. The problem comes with Poclit tries to force them back down to the ground and Schrio falls on his butt. At this point, I don't think it would be choking.

Poclit holds onto the Kesa while they are both turtling.

But because of the angle, instead of rolling flat to his back, the dude ops to stay on his knees.

To those confused- if you watch the beginning, you can see Poclit was going for a Kesa Gatame to flatten out Schrio.
